Gonzalo Tassier’s “Tapete de Asfalto” – A Safe zone at home.

“I was born with a gift and I feel that my duty is to give it back to others.”

-Gonzalo Tassier

Recipient of the prestigious Sir Misha Black medal awarded by London’s Royal College of Art in 2008 for extraordinary dedication to design education, Gonzalo Tassier embodies the humility and back-to-basics attitude that is the fundamental charisma sought by many designers across their entire careers.

Gonzalo’s piece, aptly named “Tapete de Asfalto” (Asphalt Carpet) is an exploration into how graphics evoke a very clear emotional response from users. The black wool background and the white silk lines are a representation of the lines on a crosswalk. Crosswalks, are a “safety zone” in a hostile pedestrian environment. A place where one feels safe when crossing the street. At home, around our living room, in our bedroom or in our den, we feel the same sense of security. Shelter is one of the most basic and primordial origins of human design.

Odabashian Rugs at the Setai, Miami

The Setai is the most luxurious property on South Beach. Managed by luxury hotel management veterans GHM, it’s attention to detail and service is unrivaled across most of the region. Odabashian custom rugs were a perfect fit for such a luxurious property already recognized by it’s award-winning interiors.

From their site:

“The Setai is an intimate, serene oceanfront resort in the heart of South Beach.

Its design vision artfully combines the rich architectural history of the neighborhood and its cultural diversity with the International Art Deco movement, particularly its influence in Asia. Infused with natural materials, space and light, The Setai bears the unmistakable imprint of legendary hotelier Adrian Zecha.

The Art Deco landmark building was originally built between 1936 – 1938 as the famed Dempsey Vanderbilt Hotel. Next to it is our 40-story glass tower that surpasses all around it in elevation, views and design.”

The Setai team selected Odabashian’s hospitality division to replace the aging original hand-woven rugs for it’s equity owned villas in the hotel’s management program. This, because of the experience and track record Odabashian has with manufacturing luxury-grade hand made rugs for similar projects. Some of them include Banyan Tree Hotels, Aman Resorts, as well as The Delano
